Reviewing terms and conditions

The terms for a particular credit transaction belong in the documents presented for that transaction. This page is a review checklist. It does not set a borrowing limit, interest rate, cancellation deadline or legal venue for an agreement.

Identify the parties and documents

Read the business name, contact information and description of the product. Check that the terms refer to the amount and offer you are considering. Keep the offer, repayment schedule and related disclosures together. If a business name or role is unclear, ask for clarification before continuing.

Check the full financial schedule

Locate the amount financed, net funds available, APR, fees and total scheduled payments. Record when the first and final payments fall due and whether any payment differs. Ask how late or returned payments are treated and how an early payoff amount is obtained. The cost comparison guide provides a place to start.

Review permissions separately

Look at any electronic signature, automatic payment, credit inquiry and communication consent presented to you. Read what each request covers and the instructions for questions or changes. A general website information page should not be treated as your acceptance of those separate permissions.

Understand changes and disputes

Find the process stated in the documents for a cancellation request, payment question or dispute. Ask about an unclear deadline or provision. This checklist does not determine which rights or law apply to your circumstances. Seek appropriately qualified advice if you need help interpreting a legal provision.

Keep a usable copy

Retain documents you can access after the application session ends. For account questions, use the contacts on the agreement or latest statement. The loan management guide helps prepare payment and payoff questions; website use information explains the separate scope of guides and calculator estimates.
