Loan management checklist

For an existing loan, start with your signed agreement or most recent statement. It identifies the business handling the account and the contact route for questions. This page provides a checklist; it does not access an account, accept payments or change a repayment schedule.

Before the next payment

  • Check the due date, amount and payment method against the agreement.
  • Review any payment authorization and the instructions for asking about changes.
  • Keep proof of completed payments and compare it with the statement.
  • If information differs, ask the business shown on the documents to explain it.

If you need payment support

Write down what you can pay, the dates involved and the question you want answered. Contact the business through the details on your agreement or statement and ask what arrangements it can discuss. Do not assume that requesting help changes a due date. Obtain written confirmation of any agreed change, including its effect on fees, future payments and the final balance.

If you want to repay early

Request a payoff amount for a specific date and ask how to make the payment. Check whether the figure includes all charges and how completion will be confirmed. A worksheet estimate or an old statement balance may differ from the amount required on the date you pay.

Protect account information

Use a verified contact route before sending documents or payment details. This page has no account login, Social Security number field or payment form. A new application is not a way to manage an existing account.

For questions about the meaning of a payment schedule, see the payment FAQ. If comparing a proposed replacement loan, use the consolidation guide and current payoff figures rather than assuming a lower monthly payment reduces the total cost.
